IFS Topper Sangram Keshari Behera Success Story

If not an IAS, Berhampur could get a topper in I.F.S. Now both Khallikote Colleges and the Berhampur University can claim – yes we do produce All India Toppers.

This 5th the results of UPSC was published and Mr.Sangram Kesari Behera of Berhampur was a happy man finding his name at the top of the list. Mr.Sangram Keshari Behera, the only son of Mr. Niranjan Behera and Grandson of Mr.Brundaban Behera (Retd) Head Master hails from Village Sikiri near Hinjilicut where he studied up to class III.Last twenty two years they are staying at Aina Bandha Street, Bramhapur.He was a student of Khallikote Junior College during his +2 Science, did honours in Khallikote Autonomous College and Post Graduation at Berhampur University in Zoology and continuing Phd.

His father , Mr.Niranjan Behera, a Commerce graduate runs a small saloon at Berhampur after he failed to get a job some more than two decades back, thanks to the Governments reservation policies for S.C and S.T students. Although the father could not afford to send his two daughters Anupam Behera and Nirupama Behera, he was determined to give best possible education to his son, being a graduate himself and the son of a pious Head- master and he has at last achieved his goal against all odds. Mr. Sangram Was awarded a Gold Medal by the Allumini association of Berhampur University on 29/3/09.


Mr. Sangram appeared at the I.F.S. and I.A.S examination in 2007 and 2008 too but he could qualify only at the written examination in his second attempt. But the determined Mr. Sangram don’t give up and again appeared at the IFS examination on 11th to 14th July 2009 (UPSC), faced Via voce on Feb 15th 2010 , Medical check up on 16th and Walking test on 17th . On this 5/3/2010 he finally got the much awaited result from Internet only to be the happiest. All close to him, his family and friends were happy to know the news. On contact he said-“To reach goal finance is not always a matter or a big obstacle rather determination is essential”. One has to do hard work and dedication is “SADHANA”. An emotional Mr.Sangram said he is not unhappy for being born in a poor family rather happy that he could stand proud Odia bringing laurels for Odisha. However, he din’t forgets the difficulties in getting study materials and guidance whenever needed at Berhampur.
